"The factory-campus as an emergent type (consider recent commissions for Morphosis and Diller, Scofidio + Renfro) is the 21st century, capitalist equivalent of the Chinese danwei. Using comparative research on industrialization and social housing in New York and Hong Kong-Shenzhen, this project establishes a programme for embedding a new factory-town type into the post-industrial city. Formally the work is an exploration of limits, negotiation, and deviation from the necessary economies of both social housing and light industry at high densities. It posits a model that raises awareness across a very horizontal set of architectural and ethical goals to reacquaint us with both industry and transient sectors of our population."
